Antique Alvey fishing reel
This antique surf casting fishing reel is a product of Australia, manufactured by the Alvey company and is thought to date to the 1920’s the reel is likely to be Australian Red Cedar or Silky Oak and would have been one of 20 reels produced per week on a lathe. The reel rotates through 90 degrees to make casting very easy – the line peels off the shaped reel and through the white metal guide, enabling casts of good length, necessary for sea fishing from the shore. The reel measures 5 1/8” in diameter across the wooden face and 5 7/16”, across the white metal face. The depth from front to back is 2 5/16”. The white metal line guide has a diameter of 4 7/16”. All parts appear to move freely. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We do this to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair.
