Antique Glass syringe with amethyst blue plunger

SKU: 3590196

It is with considerable pleasure that we bring this vintage 2ml glass Luer syringe before you. Made by Becton Dickinson & Co of New Jersey USA, this glass Luer type syringe dates to the early 20th century. In this age of disposability it is nice to be reminded of a time where items were made with craftsmanship and precision, enabling repeated use without loss of effectiveness. We are advised that the amethyst blue plunger of this syringe has significance in that it indicated that the syringe was used to deliver opioid injections and in some cases was nicknamed the “Blue Lady” by those in pain and perhaps more so by those who had built a dependence. We can’t vouch for the story but it did seem given by a knowledgeable person in that area of medical practice. The syringe comes in the original box but the two needles that would have been present with the syringe have long since disappeared. This item is being sold as a collector’s piece – either someone with an interest in medical ephemera or an interest in glass in its many forms. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We do this to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair. Therefore we respectfully ask that you contact us prior to purchase, so an accurate postage cost can be agreed.

  • Packaging and postage.

With every item we sell, it is our intention to take every possible care to have it delivered to you in the same condition as when it left our premises. For this reason, packaging is tailored to each item and provides the maximum protection that we consider the item requires. Any item that arrives in a damaged condition should be referred to your postal service in the first instance for assessment of their handling of the package. If satisfaction is still lacking then we will look to see whether our efforts have been inadequate for fair handling of an item and if it is found to be so we will refund the cost of the item. Postage has now become a major cost in ecommerce so we try to strike a balance that will not unduly add excessive cost to your purchase.
