Antique silver plate hot water jug - Biddle and Collinwood
Antique silver plate water jug with attractive art nouveau decoration. This jug is in remarkably good condition for age and shows little sign of previous use. The ebonised wood handle with thumb piece appears to be modelled on, and pays homage to, that used on Georgian silverware, but body shape and decoration dates this to around 1900 – 1910. The marks on the base suggest Biddle and Collinwood, a Birmingham company who appear to have produced from 1875 onward. There is also a Sheffield company – Brookes and Crookes, from about the mid 1850’s, who used a very similar/identical mark, however they appear to have been more known as cutlers. The jug stands 8 ¼” (210mm)to the top of the handle thumb piece. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We do this to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair.
