Boxed and matched pair of jam/pickle spoons with engraved wheat sheaves.

SKU: 2050175

This offering is from the reputable firm of William Hutton and Sons, a firm initially established in Birmingham and later moved to Sheffield. The style of mark suggests that this set of spoons dates from the mid through until the end of19th century. This would also fit with the style of the spoons and the presentation box. The spoons are marked as BP for Britannia Plate, an alloy of tin, antimony and copper which was very suitable for silver plating and the silver plate, in this case remains in very bright condition with little sign of wear or use. A previous owner appears to have had initially engraved on the terminal of the stem/handle and these initials read A McI. The spoons measure 6” (153mm) in length and the case measures 7 ¼” (185mm) by 3 ¾” (95mm). The case shows considerable wear and has noticeable scratching to the top surface. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We determine costs to each item as opposed to having regional postage charges to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair.
