Cased Wade Wingfield and Rowbotham shaving and grooming set
A beautiful set from a Wade Wingfield and Rowbotham, a highly respected Sheffield based company that could trace their roots back to about 1751. In 1819 they began trading under the listed name when a forth partner, Hoult, withdrew. They were renowned for the quality of their sharp edged products.. The boxed set comprises a matched pair of straight (cut-throat) razors, a corn paring knife and a cuticle tool set within a blue velvet interior. There is a third tool missing from the lid where the corn paring knife and cuticle tool are located. The razors are full hollow ground 6/8 blades with a quote from Shakespeare's Henry V on each blade. The toe is rounded and the tang has jimps on both top and bottom. The scales appear to be celluloid. There is minor discolouration on one of the blades that should respond well to restoration. Both tangs show the same discolouration and again would respond well to restoration.
The corn paring knife has a single blade, again showing discolouration on both sides and the scales appear to bone/ivory, as does the cuticle tool. There is wear to the case both inside and out but this is in keeping with the age which is around 1840
