Antique bonbon dish with brass bound part barrel and Carlton Ware inner

SKU: 6970149

This offering is a bonbon dish in the shape of a part barrel, made of English Oak and brass banding (had previously plated with silver but this has worn off over the past 100 years or so). The interior of the basket hold a white glazed china or earthenware shallow dish which has a very clear back stamp identifying the manufacturer as Wiltshaw and Robinson. The Wiltshaw and Robinson pottery was based in Stoke on Trent and they used this back-stamp between 1894 and 1926. It is often designated “the earlier crown mark” with a modified crown in the logo being used after 1920. Apart from the silver plate being polished off, leaving the brass metal, the unit is in excellent condition, with allowance for age and use and another 100 years use possible with due care and attention.

The unit stands 2 9/16” (65mm) tall to the top of the rim, excluding the handle and fittings and has a maximum diameter of 5 3/16” (132mm), again excluding the handle and fittings. The base of the part barrel has a centre hole. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We do this to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair.
