Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug circa 1891

SKU: 4840246

Auld Curiosities is pleased to offer this Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Jug, circa 1891 for your consideration. This tall tapering jug has an elegant line, with a frieze of roundels and leaf in a distinctive blue glazed band toward the top of the jug. This sits above a close ribbed design over the greater part of the body, in a clear glaze over a cream finish. The lid is self-closing and hinged by pins on either side, which rest in generous sized apertures within the body. The lid metal appears to be pewter and presents as being in good original condition. The incised pattern number of 175 identifies this pattern as being one of the earliest and supports a date of around 1891 for the jug. There is also an incised ‘ha’ and scratched initials of the decorator (however I have been unable to identify these to a particular individual). The jug stands 8 7/8“ (225mm) tall, on base with a diameter of 3 15/16” (100mm).
