Mother of Pearl cameo in sterling silver frame
In line with our pursuit of items slightly different from the norm, we have pleasure in bringing you a cameo carved out of Mother of Pearl and set in a pierced sterling silver frame decorated with marcasite stones. The carving of the mother of pearl is really well done and it appears to have been covered with a protective lacquer which additionally serves to add to the shimmer. The rear of the shell is untreated but still shows the best qualities of mother of pearl in terms of the light interplay. The frame is, as noted above, marked as sterling silver and has alternate pierced panels compliments by solid panels, each carrying 2 marcasite stones. The rear pin is captured by a locking C clasp. The brooch is 2” (51mm) deep and 1 5/8” (41.5mm) wide. We have avoided cleaning the frame as this might be regarded as interfering with the patina of age by some – however cleaning can be carried out if requested by the buyer. Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We do this to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair.
