Pair of rare Roseville pottery art deco 7" vases in the 1935 Moss pattern
Tonight, Auld Curiosities is proud to be in a position to offer a matched pair of art deco era vases from one of America’s finest art potteries – Roseville. Founded in Ohio in 1890, the pottery grew steadily and by the turn of the century employed in excess of 300 workers. Among the great names associated with Roseville is that of Frederick Hurton Rhead (father of Charlotte Rhead) who held to position of art director there for 5 years from 1904. This offering is a pair of deco shaped vases, decorated in the Moss pattern which was produced between 1932 and 1933. The soft pinks and pastel greens provide a great base for the draping Spanish Moss design. The base marks are shown in the images attached, though not well delineated. They do indicate the maker, pattern number and indeed the size of the vases (7” in height). Each vase has been carefully checked and there is a single small flake from the surface of each base found (see images), otherwise these rare examples (in terms of shape) are undamaged, pre-owned pieces.
