Victorian era fish serving knife with pierced and etched blade
Tonight Auld Curiosities would like to bring you what has proven to be a mystery. There is no misunderstanding as to what this is, a Victorian era fish serving knife, but there is absolutely no information to be found on the item that gives information regarding maker, place and country of origin etc. None the less I do feel quite confident about some details – the knife is of the style and decoration that supports a date of late 19th century, the elegantly pierced and etched blade shows no sign of a plated layer wearing off so perhaps a cupro-nickel type metal while the handle – again elegantly worked does appear to be most likely silver. The knife is 13” (330mm) in total length and carries the wear of a previously owned and used item, without signs of undue abuse.
Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We determine costs to each item as opposed to having regional postage charges to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair. Covid 19 may continue to ravage world-wide but Dunedin City and indeed Otago in New Zealand remains free of both the Delta and Omicron variants. However, today saw the Government react (perhaps sluggishly) to the Omicron variant leaking through the border controls that were in place. There is now active cases in both the North Island and the top of the South Island. While Dunedin remains free of the virus, it seems likely that we may face this challenge in the next couple of weeks. As always, Auld Curiosities will endeavour to ensure that any of items being stored and/or dispatched will present minimal risk to others.
If for any reason you find an item does not match the description (written or photographic) please contact Auld Curiosities by email within 7 days of the item arriving, to arrange return and refund.
Packaging and Postage
With every item we sell, it is our intention to take every possible care to have it delivered to you in the same condition as when it left our premises. For this reason, packaging is tailored to each item and provides the maximum protection that we consider the item requires. Any item that arrives in a damaged condition should be referred to your postal service in the first instance for assessment of their handling of the package. If satisfaction is still lacking then we will look to see whether our efforts have been inadequate for fair handling of an item and if it is found to be so we will refund the cost of the item. Postage has now become a major cost in ecommerce so we try to strike a balance that will not unduly add excessive cost to your purchase.
