Wildflower pattern small pitcher from Karta Road Gouda 1922

Wildflower pattern small pitcher from Karta Road Gouda 1922

SKU: 4640320

The highly regarded Dutch Gouda ornamental and table wares are not from one specific pottery but it is a generic term for all the potteries in the city of Gouda (equally well known for their cheese) not producing Delft. This particular small pitcher has reference to Karta, as  part of the back-stamp and I understand this is reference to the particular pottery which was on Karta Road. The pattern has been identified as ‘Wildflowers’ but I am unable to identify the particular painter/decorator. – the initials appear to be TOU (see the photographs). The pitcher is dated to 1922 and while retains the vibrancy that Gouda pottery is renowned for, there are a couple of 1mm glazing flaws and two equally small rubs on the semi-matte surface. To this end the 4 3/8” (112mm) tall pitcher is offered for a reduced price.
