WMF Silver plated vase with elements of Jugendstil in the design
Tonight, Auld Curiosities returns to one of my favourite manufacturers in metalware, Wurttemburische Metallwarenfabrik, better known by the initials WMF. This offering, for your consideration, is a silver plate on brass, vase with small raised handles and pierced work around the rim. In what seems limited space for the decoration, there is none the less good expression of the Jugendstil artistic movement which was prevalent between 1895 and 1910 in Germany. This style created ways of blending the sinuous curves of the art nouveau style and more geometric shapes together and this is evident in especially with the design here. The curving rise of the handles gives wonderful flow while the smaller impressed detail blends curves and diamond shapes very nicely. The vase stands 6 3/16” (157mm) to the top of the handles and shows wear to the silver plate at the high point of the curve, on each side of the handles, with the brass body showing through in small patches. This wear and couple of small dents on the bottom edge would be consistent with age. There is a nice clear backstamp which matches the 1895 – 1910 design range.
Postage will be determined at point of sale and is a cost to the buyer. We determine costs to each item as opposed to having regional postage charges to ensure that our charges are accurate and fair. PLEASE DO NOT BUY AN ITEM WITHOUT ESTABLISHING THE POSTAGE CHARGE TO BE ADDED TO THE PURCHASE PRICE.

It was reported on 11th February that Dunedin has its first active case of Covid 19 in nearly 2 years. As Auld Curiosities is a contactless ecommerce business we have no major changes to make in terms of our selling items to you. We have for the last 2 years practiced good hygiene care both when unpacking purchased items and when preparing items for postage. There will be added attention to interpersonal contact but I am doubly vaccinated and ‘boosted’, wear a hospital grade mask in public and maintain good hygiene so hopefully there will not be too much discombobulation if we can maintain the supply of items to offer customers.
If for any reason you find an item does not match the description (written or photographic) please contact Auld Curiosities by email within 7 days of the item arriving, to arrange return and refund.
Packaging and Postage
With every item we sell, it is our intention to take every possible care to have it delivered to you in the same condition as when it left our premises. For this reason, packaging is tailored to each item and provides the maximum protection that we consider the item requires. Any item that arrives in a damaged condition should be referred to your postal service in the first instance for assessment of their handling of the package. If satisfaction is still lacking then we will look to see whether our efforts have been inadequate for fair handling of an item and if it is found to be so we will refund the cost of the item. Postage has now become a major cost in ecommerce so we try to strike a balance that will not unduly add excessive cost to your purchase.
