WMF (Wurtembergische Metallwarenfabrik) silver plate milk and sugar
This evenings offering from Auld Curiosities is a silver plated milk and sugar set in an art nouveau style. Made by the renowned WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik) of Germany, these pieces appear to be a silver plate on brass – with the base metal showing through on some of this high points. The design has a pleasing flow and clean lines and probably sits toward the end of the art nouveau era, going into the art deco. The back-stamp features the iconic running ostrich in a rhombus which is further contained by a domed rectangular frame with horizontal lines. This mark was introduced in the first few years of the 20th century and was used up until the early 1930’s. The sugar bowl stands 2” (51mm) tall and has a rim diameter of 3 3/8” (86mm), The milk jug stands2 3/8”60mm) and a rim diameter of 2 5/8” (67mm), excluding the pourer. These are pre used items and do show wear as previously stated, plus some staining internally.
