A remarkable tiny double bladed penknife in the form of a violin
I am not sure where penknife collectors gather to admire each outhers latest additions to their collection, or indeed how big their collection might be. However, I am confident that this offering would be one of the smallest penknife’s, to add to any collection. There is no maker’s name that I could see but advice given to me, suggests that this would have likely been designed for a composer to sharpen the quill tip when writing notes on to the musical score. However, I cannot state this as fact. There is a metal ring extending past the bone scales – presumably this could have been so the violin could attach to a fob-chain or similar, given the total length is only 33mm, a width of just 9mm and a depth of just 4mm the blades are just12mm long when extended and approximately a maximum of 2mm blade width. Because this is an area where I have little knowledge to draw on, I have set a reserve that was recommended to me by a more experienced trader in this area.
