Ruby cased glass, cut to clear, candlestick

NZ$52.50

This ruby flash cased clear glass candlestick for those who seek out and collect ruby glass and especially examples of ‘cut to clear’. Research suggests that this piece was made in the Egermann Glassworks, in Novy Bor, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia circa 1920’s. This region, quite rightly, was renowned for the long-standing traditions in fine glass making. The candlesticks then, were most often handblown and decorated using wheel cut hand engraving, such as can be seen in this example. The candlestick also shows acid etch work as part of the stem decoration. On examination the candlestick is free of chips, cracks or noticeable scratches – in fact does not show any signs of having been used much at all. It stands 220mm tall on a base with a diameter of 100mm.
