Joseph Sankey and Sons copper tea caddy c.1920’s
This solid copper tea caddy is a great example of JS&S’s move to include a more arts and crafts design to their strong art nouveau stable of copper and brass ware. Interestingly, within 2 days of receiving this caddy I received another – both polished to this quite high shine when I received them. The number 8 on the base indicates it was made to hold 8 ounces of tea. The cap still has a good friction fit – necessary to keep the tea fresh and it really does give a sense of balance to the caddy. The caddy has a maximum height of 147mm and sits on a base with a diameter of 109mm on the long axis and81mm on the shorter axis. Small crease in the top of the lid and a further crease on the lower margin of the broadside shown in image 1.
