Whitefriars Ruby glass water jug with clear, textured handle

Whitefriars Glass was regarded as the premier decorative glass manufacturing companies in the United Kingdom. This hand-blown water pitcher has the distinctive ‘sparrow beak’ pourer which I understand was a design influence of Geoffrey Baxter’s, who joined the firm in 1954. Baxter went on to develop textured finishes to his hand-blown glass in the early 1960’s, which allows a reasonably clear time window when this pitcher would have been manufactured (mid 1950’s to mid-1960’s). The clear glass handle has a ribbed effect and gives a nice balance to the otherwise smooth design. The pitcher stands 173mm tall to the tip of the pourer and 145mm wide while the base it sits on is 56mm. The base has a nice ground and polished pontil, in line with it being handblown glass.
