Antique Masonic Lodge “Primo” Jewel

NZ$125.00

This antique Masonic lodge jewel turned 100 in March of this year and is offered in the maker’s original presentation box. Dating of the jewel was identified by the sterling silver hallmarks from a London assay of 1924 and the jewel presentation date of 10th March 1925. The “primo” jewel is associated with the “United Grand Lodge of England”, identified by the top bar stating “Mother Lodge of the World”. The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is regarded as the foundational entity from which other Grand Lodges around the world are based. The entwined gold letters in the red oval (GSB) I believe to stand for the Grand Surrey Banner and lean toward this jewel being one from lodge of “The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes”. On the circular, lower part of the jewel, the Latin reads “Nemo Mortalium Omnibus Horis Sapit and this is the motto of Buffaloes orders, translating to “No mortal is at all times wise” on the reverse the jewel border indicates the recipient of the Jewel and the membership of Marettie Lodge – I could not locate the lodge either locally or in Great Britain. The enamel work is still bright and free of damage, in fact the only flaw I can see is the silk lining of the inside boox lid has deteriorated at the hinge area between top and bottom part of the box. The jewel weighs 30.8gms by my scales.
