Antique, little ‘dice in a bottle’ travelling dice game curiosity
Now this is a very plain, unassuming little bottle made of wood which had little to initial appeal, that disappeared as soon as I paid adequate attention. I honestly was amazed when I saw that I could separate top from bottom and delighted when I found that this was achieved, not by a crude pull apart, but by a carefully crafted screw mechanism. The three small dice fit nicely and match nicely, with theme indicated on the bottle in a badly faded green oval. If I am reading it correctly it is “Barbum’s Lager” – but as stated the writing is faded and difficult to be sure of. The dice appear to be bone and moist likely bone. The bottle stands 65mm tall in a base with a diameter of 18.5mm. I have deliberately made no attempt to clean this item, as some potential buyer may prefer the patina of age and use (probably 1920’s).
