Uranium glass vase /bowl
This piece could easily be mistaken for depression glass with a satin glass finish, at least until it is exposed to ultraviolet light. The uranium salts incorporated into the molten glass then fluoresces and gives off (in this case) a strong ethereal green glow. Popular especially in the 1930’s alongside the art deco era, it seems to be increasingly hard to find good examples of such glass, but well worth the search. This oval shaped vase is decorated with a stylised leaf pattern rising up to a rim that contours to match the design. The base has a stylised starburst – which compliments the oval shape. The vase is 8” (203mm) on the longest axis and 5 ¼” (133mm) wide. It stands 3 7/8” (99mm) tall at the highest point and no damage is seen.
