Antique clear glass eye-wash bath, John Bull shape

Auld Curiosities is delighted to offer our second antique, pedestal based, eye wash cup in the ‘John Bull’ shape, for your viewing pleasure. Eye washing has been a long standing practice both for administering medications and for washing out impurities. This particular eye wash cup doesn’t have any branding on the base of the pedestal to identify a maker so in a desire for accuracy and honesty I can only say that it is of the form usually referred to as a hand blown (into a mould) John Bull eye wash cup. This pattern was patented in 1917 and the cup stands 2 ½” (63mm) tall on a base with a diameter of 1 9/16” (39mm). The pedestal has been shaped into eight flat faceted surfaces and swells before meeting the bottom of the generously shaped cup. Condition is excellent for a pre-owned piece of this age – no chips or cracks.
