Art Deco/flapper style hat pin/brooch

This pin captures the transition from the “flapper era” to the art deco.  The body is made of black celluloid or Bakelite and decorated with rhinestones following the very geometric pattern of the pin. In all there are 39 rhinestones, supported by rows of small, raised pinheads finished in a copper/brass colour. The shape, the rhinestones and the pinhead decoration combine to create a pin that could be used as a hat ’flash’ which was popular in the day, or an eye-catching brooch. The rear surface holds the brass pin that would fix the piece to hat or coat and the whole unit measures 55mm deep.
