Vintage DCL Whisky decanter
For your consideration we are pleased to offer this understated, but elegant decanter. Branded to celebrate the Distillers Company Limited whisky which was founded in 1877 and intended as a cartel to set the prices of grain whiskies. The company enjoyed considerable success but was taken over by Guinness in the 1986 in what has been portrayed as a somewhat corrupt manner involving inflated share prices etc.
The (faded) gold tone on the acid etch branding was most commonly seen around the 1920’s to 30’s and this would fit with somewhat angular body and stopper design. The decanter is pre-owned and as such has signs of wear, but no major detractors. The biggest issues would be the small grazes to the glass on the shoulder of the decanter, a tiny chip on the lip of the decanter and normal wear and tear caused by hands on the acid etch – the gold tone was probably more intense when new. The decanter stands 284mm tall on a base with a diameter of 87mm
