“Bristol blue” pedestaled eye wash by Wood Bros. Barnsley, England.

NZ$55.00

Tonight, Auld Curiosities is delighted to offer this antique, John Bull shape, Bristol blue, pedestal-based eye wash bath for your viewing pleasure. Eye washing has been a long-standing practice both for administering medications and for washing out impurities. This particular eye wash bath was produced by the Wood Brothers Glass Company of Barnsley, Yorkshire, England, evidenced by the branding on the base of the pedestal. They were in business from 1828 and the shape of the moulded glass cup suggests a manufacture date between the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The wash bath stands 2 ½” (63mm) tall on a base with a diameter of 1 23/32” (44mm). There is a minute flaw on the rim – I hesitate to call this a chip as it could equally be a flaw in the unmoulding, but will price as if slightly flawed regardless.
