Antique sugar tongs in silver plate by Mappin and Webb / Stevenson and Webb

Auld Curiosities has had a few sugar tongs but this is the first with the makers marks of two different companies. Here we have the makers cypher for Mappin and Webb and for Stevenson & Law, both firms located in Sheffield and the likely date of manufacture falls between 1900 and 1920. This also, by far, the most detailed bird claw grips that we have ever seen on sugar tongs. By no means experts, we regard these tomgs as being rare due to these details and this raises them in interest for us and hopefuly for you. The tongs measure approximateley 155mm in length and they have great tension for their age.The claws are textured front and back and as previously said, the detail in the work is exceptionalespecially for the underfoot area.
