Rare Tudric pewter specimen vase for 5 individual flowers, by Liberty of London

NZ$165.00

Every now again we are fortunate to obtain an item that is not only charming but also intriguing and unusual. Clearly it is a pewter vase, but the first that we have had with 5 separate receivers for flowers. The bottom of the unit is clearly marked as having been made in England, but no maker is identified as such. Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, however there are times like this when that little knowledge unlocks a treasure. The model number and the knowledge that the “Tudric” company often didn’t name their work, led to the discovery that this piece is regarded as an extremely rare vase style, made by Tudric for the Liberty Company, to an Archibald Knox design. It feels as if we are guilty of name dropping by having those names in one sentence, but such is the influence of this piece. The vase stands 7 ¾” (195mm) tall with maximum diameter across the bulbous swell of 4 ¾” (114mm). One small impact dent noted and shown in the main photograph. There is a hand scratched mark on the base which includes initials and a date (G.A.W. 1945) but we have been unable to determine how long after the vase was made, that this was added.

As photographs form an important part of the description, happy to provide additional images if requested. Please also take the time to check out our eclectic range of items being offered.
