1927 Sterling silver bladed, folding fruit knife by William Needham, Sheffield

NZ$145.00

This fruit knife has a well hallmarked sterling silver blade and unblemished mother of pearl scales. The maker, William Needhama recognised cutler, registered as a silversmith at the Sheffield assay office in 1891 and he became equally renowned. This example from 1927 for his silver work, especially fruit knives with folding blades. The blade, as noted above has the requisite hallmarks and makers mark and one scale has a small unadorned, unused silver plated, quite long, thin pate which hasn’t been engraved. The blade appears to have misused as a screw-driver or something similar in as much as it doesn’t seat completely into the recess, as can be seen in the images. There is also a small area of roughness at the point – again see the attached images. The knife is a total of 138mm with the blade extended and the handle is 84mm of the total length.

As photographs form an important part of the description, happy to provide additional images if requested. Please also take the time to check out our eclectic range of items being offered.
