Antique Ensign Roll Reflex 2 1/4B Anastigmat Model SLR camera
The Houghton Butcher Ensign Roll Reflex 2 1/4" Anastigmat Model is a vintage British single-lens reflex (SLR) camera made by G. Houghton & Son . It is a basic reflex camera built around a box camera design Patented in 1922, this roll film camera used 120 roll film to produce 6x9cm horizontal images. The camera has a Luxor Anastigmat f7.7 lens by Taylor, Taylor and Hobson of Leicester – and was part of the renowned Cooke lens series. This firm appears to have made a diverse range of all things optical – telescopes, enlargers and camera lenses. The Luxor " designation and "anastigmat" type indicate it was a high-quality lens, likely designed to correct optical aberrations, such as spherical aberration, coma, and astigmatism. These lenses, often found mounted in various shutters and cameras from the early 20th century, are now, quite rare with many cameras of this type being fitted with an Aldis Uno, both Luxor and Aldis lenses with an iris diaphragm to f32, and a shutter with time and instantaneous settings.
