Vintage shirt studs and matching cufflinks to go with a tuxedo

NZ$60.00

Auld Curiosities brings you a full set of four dress shirt studs, and cufflinks in green glass. The glass has beautiful depth of colour and presented in the style of a domed cabochon cut, mounted in gold coloured metal. The shirt studs hark back a time of the stiff shirt front – originally made of celluloid or hard cardboard and called an interlined shirt bosom. With the advent of the starched shirt front shirt studs made a statement not achieved by just using buttons. To making fitting easier, the shaft of the fastener is spring loaded and the short arm in the area of the glass head, can be withdrawn to allow the fastener to be correctly placed and the held in place when the end of the long shaft is ‘sprung’ back into place. For less formal dress there is a matching cravat pin which today would probably become a tie pin. The cravat pin if a simple pin which can be pushed through the cravat and held behind by the metal fitting that the shaft slides into. The cufflinks are dual faced and simply fitted through the buttonholes on the French cuff and then held in place by the bar between the two faces. Unfortunately, these fittings came to Auld Curiosities without any box or container and no history/provenance.
