Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era WMF Copper Vase c1902

Those who follow my postings here will realise that I am a ‘dyed in the wool’ lover of WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik) items from the art nouveau and art deco eras. Some of their work is classic to these two styles but, being a German company, they also have a commitment to Jugendstil – a German and Austrian variant. This small copper vase is classic of the Jugendstil style with beaten lower body, stained black to highlight the pattern. Surrounding this are five circular panels repeating a pattern of circular flower heads and stems with flowing curves. The vase stands approximately 168mm tall and has diameter of approximately 82mm at the widest point. I have indicated the measurements as approximate as the vase has some variance due to having taken some knocks throughout its long life. While I have relieved to worst of these, I have made no attempt to return the vase to looking new – it deserves these overall small damages as a testament to the journey it has made.
