Rare Antique The Onoto patent self-filling fountain pen 1000 model

NZ$515.00

Made by Thomas De La Rue Ltd from 1905, the Onoto quickly rose to sit alongside the Waterman, Conway Stewarts and Parkers as a market leader. Marketed in Britain simply as ‘The Pen’, their pens were highly regarded for the ‘plunger filler’ and the quality of the components used in the construction. The company also enjoyed success on the continent and in the USA, leading to the opening of an American subsidiary in 1909. After considerable research I left with the clear understanding that this is the Onoto model 1000 – it fits the length, bodt diameter and of course it has the over and under feed – much rarer than the later 2000 and 3000 models, which did not have the over and under ink feed system. Clearly this pen was made in the USA and somewhere between 1909 and 1915. The body is hard chased rubber and the nib is a 14ct gold one. I know little of restoring pens of this ere and rather than do more harm than good, I have left that task to the buyer. I believe it will require a full service with new cork seals likely needed.
