Rare antique Niazi brand straight razor with a 13/16th blade in original box
This razor, according to the information on the tang was made in Solingen, Germany – a city with a long-standing excellent reputation for blade making. The word ‘Wald’ in front of Solingen is usually used to refer to a specific company, but in this case, no specific company is mentioned. On the obverse side of the blade the tang is stamped with the words NIAZI Reg. The blade on the obverse is engraved or stamped with Solingen Extra and the number 21 in a starburst design sits between both words (the reverse is plain). The blade is remarkable condition – none of those tracery type discolorations but I would highlight a small darker area on both sides of the blade at the point, where the blade rests against the scales in the closed position. The scales are likely celluloid but may be Bakelite. I do not the skills required to bring this razor into perfect condition, but others do – hopefully they will see it here (Trade Me for one week then on to the website if unsold). The razor is sold with what appears to be the original box – the yellow label is faded and perhaps water damaged – I could make out the following script –“The Niazi Razor” above “Hardened and tempered by electricity the best and most improved process” and on the bottom line “Extra hollow ground first German manufacture”. The box is in “rough” condition but well worth keeping with the razor in my opinion.
