Silver plated, Philip Ashberry and Sons, desk set with cut glass inkwell

NZ$115.00

Auld Curiosities is delighted to bring you a silver plated Britannia metal desk set with a single cut glass inkwell. From Philip Ashberry and Sons of Sheffield, England, this desk set is restrained in its decoration, relying on balanced, clean lines for its appeal. Philip Ashberry and Sons date from 1836 to 1933 when the firm closed. Stylistically this piece would date to the end of the Arts and Crafts era (late Victorian) and into the Edwardian years. The desk set sits on bun feet, rising to quite an angular tray without much in the way of decoration. That same restraint is seen with the cut glass inkwell – with just a chamfered bevel edge around the top surface to soften the overall look. The desk set stands approximately 4 1/8” tall to the top of the finial and 6 1/8” (156mm) wide by 4” (102mm) deep.
