Antique cased cravat pin with heart shaped (?) Imperial Topaz stone

NZ$225.00

Auld Curiosities does not have a gemmologist on staff, so the stone here is described as it was sold to us. There are a couple of other similar coloured gemstones – tourmaline and Citrine being the most obvious. The type of gemstone is less significant, Values being similar (tourmaline generally higher and Citrine generally lower) the cut of the stone is probably the more important consideration – a heart shaped cut is less common and here it is well presented to good effect. The stone is held in a pierced mount firmly set in place and encased by 14 prongs/claws. The pierced mount allows light to illuminate the underside of the stone adding to the impact. Set beneath a crown in gold which then connects to the gold shaft of the pin. There is no carat marking in this cravat pin but I do note that previous owner has scraped a small section of the pin – either by accident or design (to see if it was gold coating) – the colour remains true under the scrape so buyers can decide for themselves. Total weight of the pin is 1.21 grams. The case shows wear both in terms of the outer cloth and the cloth in the inner lid, which is coming free sat the edges. While cravats may struggle to return to popularity, the pin wouls make a nice statement piece on the lapel of a coat, jacket or similar
