Antique 1923 Paragon Star fine bone china trio

NZ$55.00

The era of tea-cups, saucers and side plates may well have been replaced by mugs, but interest remains in quality pieces from renowned makers. Paragon China is a firm favorite of Auld Curiosities - there is just something about the feel of pieces and the fit to the hand. I suppose it isn’t surprising since they had considerable time to refine their craft, being founded in 1897 as the ‘Star China’ company but using the Paragon name from about 1900, initially colloquially including Star as well. Bought by Royal Albert in 1992, some pieces are still identified as Paragon pieces as part of the Royal Albert backstamp – such is the esteem they were held in. This particular trio has a British Product Registration number of 695475 for 1923 and is decorated in a chinoiserie style, blue and gold floral tree branch design. This is not unlike an early version of ‘Indian Tree’ which became a favored design in its day. The cup stands 63mm tall with a rim diameter of 80mm. The saucer has a diameter of 133mm and the side-plate 143mm. All pieces ring true and there are no chips cracks etc. seen on examination. Wear is absolutely minimal for age.
