Octagonal shaped inkwell on a circular penholder

I believe that this style of inkwell was designed to grace the desk of managers and executives in the mid-20th century, so vintage rather than antique, but still a nice piece. I have seen other similar sets advertised as being for calligraphy so that too is a possibility. Circular base and square cut glass with top and bottom of each edge cut back by 45 degrees, giving the impression of an octagonal inkwell, takes this desk set a little above our other similar examples. The base has a diameter of 96mm, the pen holder moves freely and the inkwell itself shows previous use with a light staining ring inside the well about half way up.. The brass hinge is in great condition. There is small chipping to some of the edges – but small enough not to detract from the over all effect
