Regal Ware vase with undulated rim in the hand painted "Poppy" pattern
The Auld Curiosities is pleased to offer, for your consideration, an elegantly shaped vase with frilled top edge, by the Regal Pottery Co. in the “Poppy” pattern. The Regal Pottery Company was based in Stoke on Trent, England between 1925 and 1931and dealt mainly in earthen-wares. The Poppy pattern was mainly produced for dinnerware and display pieces. There is no printed mark stating that the piece was hand painted by C Burton - who frankly was one of Regalware Pottery’s most talented decorators, but this site already shows two other pieces in the same pattern that are marked, presumably it was an issue of room on the base only.. The marled beige ground is surrounded by bold florals in striking colours and highlighted by gold trim on the petal edges and the black edging to the top and bottom edges serves to add a degree of impact to the overall presentation. This is a pre-loved piece that appears to have minimal signs of wear and no obvious abuse or damage, however a limited amount of crazing is seen on the underneath surface. The vase measures 6 ¾” (172mm) tall and has a maximum diameter of 2 11/16” (69mm)
