Hard to find Langley Mill Tobacco Humidor with lid and brass fitting intact
Langley Mill Pottery operated from 1865 to 1982, undergoing a number of name changes. This is a wonderful example of their craft, probably from around the 1930’s but prior to WW2 or the early post-war period. This dating is based on the use of the “windmill” backstamp that can be seen in the last image for this item. While it is smudged the form of the backstamp is discernible and the pa. tent number also assists in identification. The humidor stands 125mm tall to the top of the brass screw (tightened down) and has a maximum diameter of approximately the same measure. The construction materiel is a stoneware style pottery and the brass ‘frog’ is easy to tighten or release. The rubber seal appears intact and capable of giving and airtight seal. The body shape fits with humidors being made pre and post WW2 but in all the years I have had this jar I have failed to find a similar or matching applied pattern.
