ETB Radford hand painted "Swan Neck" vase

NZ$135.00

Auld Curiosities is proud to bring this item before you. Anyone who has been following the website may well have picked up my admiration for English potter and decorator ETB Radford. In many ways, this vase captures some of the best elements of his work. The vase has the sponged ground so often associated with Radford and is identified as being a “Swan Neck” and the pattern is CJ – perhaps representing a dahlia or similar. The earliest reference that I can find for Edward T B Radford was when he worked as a pottery artist initially for Pilkington’s until WW1 interrupted his life, along with so many others. He fought with the rank of Captain in the 19th Middlesex Regiment and was awarded a Military Cross for his actions at Passchendaele. After the war he returned to pottery and worked for HJ Wood in the 1920’s. He appears to have operated under the umbrella of HJ Woods at the Alexandra Pottery in Burslem, producing the distinctive floral art and decoesque pottery in his own name between the 1930’s and 1948 when he retired. Condition is excellent. The vase stands 390mm tall on a base with a dimeter of 138mm.

As photographs form an important part of the description, happy to provide additional images if requested. Please also take the time to check out our eclectic range of items being offered.
