Bronze “Britannia Moneta” Medallion 1924 – 1925

NZ$75.00

These medallions were struck during the British Empire Exhibition. I have seen this medallion described as a ‘trial strike’, my understanding is that this refers to Britannia, on the obverse, hand striking a coin. These medallions were sold to people visiting the exhibition, but numbers were quite small – just over 2500 and this includes ones made of silver. The medallions were designed by John Langford-Jones and were struck with a matte finish. The reverse show the Royal Mint where it stood for 158 years. The medallion has a diameter of 36mm and the matte coating shows wear in the raised areas, priced accordingly.

As photographs form an important part of the description, happy to provide additional images if requested. Please also take the time to check out our eclectic range of items being offered.
