Bronze/tombac medallion commemorating Israel's 40th anniversary as a state

This is a commemorative bronze medallion (number 7628 of 7877 minted) marking Israel's 40th anniversary in 1988. The obverse features a large number "40" stylized with a menorah, while the reverse has along the edge, it reads "ERETZ ISRAEL WAS THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE," a quote from the Israeli Declaration of Independence. The medal is made from bronze tombac which is a high-copper brass alloy (typically 70–92% copper and 8–30% zinc) often formulated with minor additions of tin or arsenic. Prized for its rich, malleable, and gold-like appearance, it is frequently used to make inexpensive jewellery, decorative objects, and commemorative medals, the medallion is commonly found in a 59mm or 60mm diameter and weighs about 95gms. It was issued by the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation.
