The Jordan is the largest and most famous river in Israel. Important events have taken place at the Jordan River and it is considered very holy in both Jewish and Christian traditions. It flows southward to the Sea of Galilee, then through the Jordan Valley to the Dead Sea, a total length of 500 km. and a descent of about 1,000 m. Numerous streams feed the Jordan, from the Samaria hills in the west, the Golan heights and the Gilead in the east and from the Banias River at the foot of Mt. Hermon. On the obverse the winding Jordan River, as seen in a satellite photograph. In the north, part of the Sea of Galilee and in the south, part of the Dead Sea. Along the circumference, the words 'JORDAN RIVER" in Hebrew and English. On the reverse the Banias Waterfall, one of the sources of the Jordan, in the midst of rich vegetation, with Mt. Hermon in the background. Top right, along the circumference, the word "BANIAS" in Hebrew and English. The edge has State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL" in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left, with serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE". The design was by Yaacov Enyedi. And Engraving by Tidhar Dagan.
