B’Shevat State Medal, 1994 number 0333 in bronze / tombac

NZ$60.00

In Israeli culture, the 15th of Shevat is the New Year of the Trees. Many of the fruit trees in Israel blossom and bud at this time of year. Some families hold a special Seder with festive meal, candles, flowers and choice fruits ft the land. On Tu B'Shevat many people, schoolchildren in particular, go out into nature to plant trees. The obverse, designed by Rueben Nutels, show trees blossoming with sun rays in the background. Below, along the circumference, “TU B'SHVAT” in Hebrew and English. The reverse, designed by Leah Zohar, shows a blossoming tree. Below along the circumference, the passage “And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees…” and the source “Leviticus 20” in Hebrew. The edge of the medallion is stamped with State emblem with the words “STATE OF ISRAEL” in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left. There is also stamped the serial number 0333 and Bronze Tin. The medallion is approximately 59mm in diameter and weighs in just under 100gms. It was issued by the Israel Coins and Medals Corporation. As can be seen in the images, this medallion has a rudimentary flock-lined fitted case with plastic cover for protection, but obviously there will be further quality, protective packaging around the sold item.
