Antique lorgnette folding glasses with stylised lily flowers and foliage.
Decorative Lorgnette, (?)continental silver and marcasites, in a stylised lily / lily of the valley design. The design includes 3 lily shaped flowers on a single stem with 11 longish leave. There is a total of 15 marcasite on the stem; a total of 45 marcasite shared amongst the flower petals flower and a total 43, shared amongst the leaves. There are no missing marcasites, though a number of them could do with a wash to clean the faceted surfaces. The images show the lorgnette in both the open and folded positions. There is a small lever release to open the action – this does show some wear and it can be difficult to engage in closing the lorgnette, but once properly in place it holds well. This lorgnette is stamped as being of German manufacture and would date to the late 19th/Early 20th century. While I believe it to be continental silver (since matching items on the internet are described as such) the lack of hallmarks means it will be sold as white metal. Folded the lorgnette is a compact 59mm by 30mm by 20mm. It came to me without a protective case so the glass does have a few defects seen under magnification, but not prominent enough to spoil the display look of this antique.
