Vintage Masonic Breast Jewel for the Order of the Secret Monitor, Second Degree

This specific Masonic order tells the story of the friendship between David and Jonathan from biblical history. This background directly explains the design choices and iconography featured on the medal: Central Monogram (D & J): The stylized letters interlaced in the centre of the hexagram stand for David and Jonathan. The two interlocking triangles form a six-pointed star (the Star of David), while the star is superimposed over three arrows. This refers to the biblical story where Jonathan shoots arrows into a field as a prearranged hidden signal to warn David of King Saul's anger.
